Modeling Moisture and Moisture Transfer Within a Residential Condominium Tower in the Microsoft Azure Cloud

An UberCloud Case Study

In this project, UberCloud and Fraunhofer Institute helped Pursiano Law Group with first-time HPC Cloud use to winning a lawsuit against a builder of residential condominium towers.

The subject property is a twin tower (15 and 20 stories) with 283-unit residential condominium. An extensive expert investigation established, among other issues, exterior plaster failure, water intrusion at improper window and roof installations, and high interior humidity levels with apparent biological growth observed on interior walls, baseboards and between layers of interior gypsum board at unit partitions.

Fraunhofer’s WUFI Plus software has been used which is a hygrothermal building simulation software, part of the world’s leading building related hygrothermal simulation suite WUFI. The parametric study resulted in as much as 583 simulations on Microsoft Azure 16-core DS14 compute nodes investigating the building behavior depending on modified conditions. Read the detailed case study.
